Google Maps

What is it?
· This is a web based global mapping program that allows users of Google to look at road maps, get directions, check out satellite images and, see aerial images of a particular location.
· This is more accessible and easier to manipulate than Google Earth.

How can you use it?
· Like Google Earth you can take this web based program to observe satellite images. Recently we have been using this program in our school to map the Olympic events in and around Vancouver.
· This has been an advantage to our school and my personal classroom because we have been able to map a drive to the Olympics logging specific land marks on the way that have related to our Social Studies unit, literate we are reading, and calculating distance and the time it would take to travel the distance.

Why would you use it?
· Again we mapped many different places globally and locally.
· Pros
  • Offers real life experiences and give hands on opportunity for its users.
  • Globally accessible
· Cons
  • Time consuming
  • Subject to internet capabilities
· Include standards (NETS and 21st Century Skills)
